The countdown to the Cannes Film Festival has begun. In just days, the eyes of the world will turn to Cannes as the 68th annual edition transforms the French Riviera into the epicentre of global cinema.
From 13–24 May, the iconic Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and the grand hotels lining La Croisette will welcome actors, directors, producers and industry leaders for what is widely regarded as the most prestigious film festival in the world. Red carpets will be rolled out, flashbulbs will pop and the Mediterranean sunshine will frame premieres that shape the cinematic year ahead.
This year’s Jury is headed by the celebrated Coen Brothers — Ethan Coen and Joel Coen — marking the first time in Cannes history that two individuals have jointly presided over the Jury. The acclaimed directors of cult classics such as Fargo and The Big Lebowski will lead a panel of nine jurors in awarding the coveted Palme d’Or, the festival’s ultimate prize.
As ever, beyond the screenings and competition, the Cannes Film Festival is synonymous with exclusive soirées and high-profile gatherings. Among the most sought-after invitations is the legendary amfAR Gala at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc on Cap d’Antibes — a venue synonymous with Hollywood glamour. Now in its 22nd year in Cannes, this black-tie evening unites the worlds of cinema, fashion and philanthropy to raise funds in the fight against AIDS. With performances from internationally renowned artists and a guest list packed with A-listers, the amfAR Gala remains the social highlight of the festival calendar.
From red-carpet premieres to waterfront parties and yacht receptions in the harbour, the Cannes Film Festival once again promises ten days of cinematic excellence, celebrity glamour and Riviera elegance.
