Under glorious Riviera sunshine, MIPTV in Cannes was in full swing on its second day, transforming the Croisette into a global meeting point for the television industry. Around the iconic Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, bars and cafés overflowed as producers, distributors and executives gathered over chilled rosé to discuss screenings, deals and the next breakout hit.

This year’s MIPTV Cannes edition has been buzzing with high-profile launches, not least the much-anticipated documentary from Idris Elba, “Mandela, My Dad and Me.” The film follows Elba during the making of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and explores a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, intertwined with the release of his album “Idris Elba Presents Mi Mandela.” Produced by his company Green Door Pictures, the documentary has been warmly received, with Elba himself in Cannes to promote both the project and his growing production slate.

Beyond the premieres and screenings, MIPTV Cannes is as much about networking as it is about content. One of the standout social events was the Nordic Party at Hôtel Martinez, celebrating the remarkable rise of television productions from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. Hosted by Nordic broadcasters in association with Ericsson, it was widely hailed as one of the week’s most vibrant gatherings.

Even with slightly cloudier skies, momentum continued with packed screening rooms and the prestigious Gala Dinner, featuring the Medaille d’Honneur ceremony. Industry leaders including Ben Silverman (Electus), Cécile Frot-Coutaz (FremantleMedia), Ricardo Scalamandré (Globo) and Irfan Sahin (Dogan TV Holding) were recognised for their significant contributions to global television.

From sunlit lunches on the Croisette to glamorous evening celebrations, MIPTV Cannes once again proves why it remains one of the most influential events on the international TV calendar — where creativity, commerce and Riviera glamour meet.
