MIDEM stands for Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale. It is an annual event for the music industry that has been held since 1967. The event is organised by REED MIDEM, a leading trade show organiser and responsible for most of Cannes’ important events. Every year, MIDEM brings to Cannes thousands of musicians, agents, producers, music executives end entrepreneurs, a venerable who’s who of the music business! Artists and record labels showcase new material with performances and concerts throughout the event. MIDEM also hosts various forums where attendees can listen to experts speaking on critical issues facing the music world, and participate in discussions on current trends and where they see the industry heading. In today’s digital download and streaming age, it is more important than ever for the music industry to adapt in order to stay relevant. MIDEM in Cannes is a very important gathering of minds in that regard, bringing together as it does, all the key players from all over the globe. MIDEM is typically attended by upwards of 7,000 people, representing over 2,000 companies from tiny startups to huge multinationals. As with all the events in Cannes, MIDEM centres around the Palais des Festivals adjacent to the Port of Cannes. Unique to Cannes, it is possible to combine exhibition space in the Palais des Festivals with a yacht in the port outside to use for entertaining.
